When you select Hibernation from the Shutdown menu, all of your applications as well as their location on your desktop come up the next time you start up your computer. To enable Hibernation, follow these steps:
1. Go to 'Start->Settings->Control Panel' 2. Click on the 'Power Options' icon 3. Click on the 'Hibernate' tab 4. Check the 'Enable Hibernation Support' checkbox
Since Hibernation takes what is in memory and writes it to disk, the amount of hard drive space needed is the same as the amount of memory you have.
